HOW IT WORKS

You feed the fish... the fish feed the plants...
the plants clean the water for the fish... Repeat!

Fish emit waste in the form of ammonia. Two different good bacteria convert the ammonia into Nitrates. Plants love Nitrates and absorb them as food to grow, while at the same time removing chemicals that are toxic to the fish! Clean water returns to the fish. You harvest Organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers and protein!

Plants without soil… Isn't that Hydroponics?

No, it’s not. Hydroponics only produces plants. Hydroponics requires the addition of 13 costly nutrients, and uses considerably more water than Aquaponics. Hydroponic Systems need to be drained as frequently as every 2 weeks. This toxic drainage is a concern for the environment. The water in an Aquaponic system is Recycled and never needs to be drained!Hydroponics is clearly more labor intensive than Aquaponics, that's why Aquaponics is sometimes called "the lazy man's Hydroponics".  In addition to producing Fruit, Vegetables, Herbs and Flowers, Aquaponics has the ability to produce Protein (unlike Hydroponics).

Vitamins, Minerals... Protein?

What kind of Protein does Aquaponics produce? Currently the most successful and abundant Protein source for a full size Aquaponic system is Fish. Tilapia is the most popular but Trout, Perch, Barramundi and Blue Gill are a few others types that are compatible. There are also successful crustacean and shellfish matches like Freshwater Crayfish, Prawns and Lobster. The great thing about Aquaponics is that it's easy!

"You can make an Aquaponic System! Make it, or buy it, use it, or give it away... it feels good to do something that makes a difference!"
